Like millions of others around the world, I’ve enjoyed watching Artemis II’s big trip around the moon.  Artemis II is a real space adventure where four astronauts climbed aboard a shiny spacecraft called Orionand blasted off from Earth on April 1, 2026. Their mission wasn’t to land on the Moon, but to fly all the way around it and come safely home again. It’s the first time people have travelled this far into space since the Apollo missions over 50 years ago.

It was something pilot Victor Glover said after lift-off that caught my attention.  ‘The kid inside you wants to hoot and holler!’ 

Many children indeed dream of being an astronaut.  Space is huge, sparkly, colourful and full of mystery.  Rockets are loud, bright, and dramatic.  Astronauts are brave, curious, heroic and explorers.  Children believe anything is possible.  And space stories feed their imagination.   

Children’s fascination with space is why I wrote the series Moon Base Genesis II many years ago; it’s still regularly used today. 

Moon Base Genesis II Synopsis

Ryan, Tristram, Leala, Stella, and Pip don’t escape school just because they live on the Moon! Along with their parents, they’re part of the Earth colony Moon Base Genesis II. Their teacher, Lunar, may be the latest in Artificial Intelligence, but there’s one thing it doesn’t understand—the real story of Creation, the Fall, Cain and Abel, Noah, or the Tower of Babel.

So the children decide to teach Lunar themselves.  But something strange is happening on the base…There’s a saboteur among the team.  Who would want to destroy Moon Base Genesis II?

This series of lessons is perfect for middle primary. It’s been upgraded many times over the years to keep pace with new technology. I’ve used it in Kid’s Club and Children’s Church, and it was even aired on Family Radio—complete with fantastic space‑themed sound effects.

The space setting also makes it ideal for a holiday program, with endless possibilities for creative crafts, games, and activities.

Artemis II is like opening the door to the next chapter of space exploration.
