Cooee Kid’s Catchup #7

I’ve recently added six exciting lessons to the Cooee Kid’s Ministry website.  Six new opportunities to minister to children engagingly, so they’re not just receiving information but transforming it into lasting understanding about how much God loves them and how the Bible is relevant to their lives.

3 Super Sunday Lessons!

Super Sundays are the Sundays that are ‘suped-up’ for increased performance.  It will take a little extra effort to prepare, but the spiritual, emotional, cognitive and behavioural benefits to the children make it worthwhile.  And the children love them!

Asaph’s Slippery Moment!

This lesson is from Psalm 73, written by Asaph. It will help children understand that when life seems unfair and wicked people succeed, living God’s way brings true joy, peace, and lasting reward if they stay steady, remain near Him, and trust Him.

Pre-lesson activities include ideas for slippery things, like a Slip ‘N’ Slide, Splash Pads, or an obstacle course that incorporates a slide.  The Slip ‘N’ Slide can be used in a game to teach the Memory Verse from Psalm 73:28, ‘But as for me, God’s presence is all I need.’  Teaching the story is easy because the visuals and words are set out clearly for you.  Enjoy slippery jelly and fruit cups for Morning Tea and finish the program with slippery stations with slime, mud, soap foam, finger painting and bubble splay.

Pass the Salt!

Children learn about the importance of salt and a little of its history when they visit a diner and meet its owner, Barney. Jesus calls us salt, and early Christians were scattered to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Create ‘Barney’s Diner’ with a jukebox for praise and worship.  The early Church couldn’t stay clumped together.  Persecution scattered them like salt in a saltshaker in Barney’s diner.   Hide plastic salt shakers with the words to the Memory Verse inside.  Serve Morning Tea from Barney’s Diner (popcorn, salt and vinegar chips or hot dogs) and play a game of Scatter Ball.  Why not try some raised salt painting?

The Missing Piece!

Here’s a lesson that explains what is missing in children’s lives! Everyone is to follow Jesus if they want to be ‘complete’. A special guest adds to the fun while teaching this important lesson about loving God with all you have.

Begin the program with jigsaw puzzles on tabletops and on the floor.  Dr Decipher, an enigmatologist specializing in jigsaws, visits to help teach the Bible story about the Rich Young Ruler, who wanted to be ‘complete’.  The Memory Verse from Deuteronomy 6:5 can be taught two ways:  a jigsaw puzzle piece race, or by hiding puzzle pieces for the children to find.  A game of Link Tag joins the children, and a Jigsaw Piece Photo Frame that says, ‘I love you to pieces’ will complete this program.

2 Bible Lessons

Hold On Tight to God!

This is a very cute Bible Lesson that uses animals that God created as examples of ‘holding on tight’.   It’s holding on tight that keeps baby animals safe.  The children learn how they should hold on tight to God, just like King Hezekiah.  The animal photographs are included in the lesson for you.

Set up a Zoo and ask your volunteers to dress as zookeepers.  The program begins with a variety of tabletop games featuring animals, such as Hungry Hippos.   Play an animal relay race to retrieve the Memory Verse from Joshua 23:8 ‘…but you shall hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day.’  Enjoy fruit platters at morning tea.  There’s a wide range of animal-themed games to play:  Monkey See, Monkey Do, Pin the Trunk on the Elephant, Noisy Noah’s Ark, Elephant Race and Snake in the Grass.  And there are suggestions for a variety of crafts from binoculars to stick puppets.

Daylight Saving!

Whether you live in a place where there is daylight saving or not, this lesson leaves no doubt that God is all-powerful and will keep every promise He makes.  It’s the Bible Story about the sun standing still from Joshua 10.  The Memory Verse from Psalm 31:14-15 says ‘But as for me, I trust in You, Lord.  I say, ‘You are my God’.  My times are in Your hand; Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me.’  It seems like a long verse, doesn’t it?  But using the SNAP IT technique, the children will have it down pat!  There are two game options, depending on the age of your children, and craft suggestions.

Easter Lesson

I’m either very late or very early with this Easter story, but it was sitting half-finished, and I finally got to it.

Judas Makes a Bad Choice!

Judas, despite all his opportunities, was not a true believer in Jesus.  In his heart, he loved money.  He loved it more than Jesus and betrayed Him for it.  This lesson teaches children that what is in their hearts is important.  They can’t keep it hidden because their heart will determine the choices they make.

This lesson includes the account of Mary and her precious alabaster box of expensive perfume, from John Chapter 12. Jesus gives everyone a chance to choose Him.  Judas chose money and betrayal.  Mary chose love and giving.  Use a Smell Guessing Game to discover the Memory Verse from Proverbs 4:23 ‘Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.’  Play a game of Guard Ball and decorate a perfume bottle as a craft.

I trust any or all of these new lessons will bless you and the children God has placed in your care!
