Cooee Kids Catchup #8
Over the past few months, I’ve been sorting through desk drawers and decluttering computer files—tidying, culling, and rediscovering forgotten treasures. As a result, I’ve finally completed a stack of half-finished lessons, and it’s been wonderfully satisfying!
Here’s a fresh summary of new resources now available for download—ready to enrich your Children’s Ministry.
New Super Sunday Lessons with a Caving Theme!
Clint Cobbler is an experienced caver (also known as a spelunker or potholer, depending on where you live) who takes children on thrilling adventures through natural cave systems.
Trust God in the Cave: David in the Cave of Adullam.
The children learn that even in a dark place, God is their refuge. They can cry out to Him for help. That’s what David did when he was on the run from King Saul. He even wrote a Psalm about it! Turns out that the cave David was hiding in overlooked the valley where he had killed Goliath. David trusted God no matter how bad things looked. When you’re in the ‘dark zone’, put your trust in God!

Trust God in the Cave: The Cave of En Gedi
The children learn that they have choices, like when David could have killed King Saul, but he chose to spare his life. What they choose to do in the dark times will affect what happens in their life. David trusted God even though he was in a dark place where nothing seemed to go right. He did not hurt the king; he did not take revenge; he showed mercy.

Trust God in the Cave: David Acts like a Madman
The children learn that even when life seems dark and scary, they can still praise God because God hears their cries and He is with them. He doesn’t only help future kings!

New Super Sunday Lessons with a Treasure Theme!
Salty and Swashy are a couple of mates who work as deckhands aboard the Wave Walker fishing trawler. But when the fish aren’t biting, they find work as tourist guides on True Treasure Island. The trouble is, Swashy needs guidance himself, and his friend Salty is there to help.
Don’t Doubt!
Salty is confident, but Swashy struggles with doubt. Children learn the importance of focusing on Jesus and calling out to Him for help through the Bible story, “Jesus Walks on Water.”

Buried or Eternal?
Swashy discovers that God wants Christians to be generous. Stashing earthly treasure might seem smart, but it’s no good if we don’t build up our eternal treasure – the kind that lasts forever. Salty uses the Bible story of the Rich Fool to explain.

New Special Occasion Lesson: Father’s Day!
Father’s Day Mystery Socks! Who does this sock belong to? This lesson examines fathers in the Bible and how their lives influence fathers today. Your volunteers have to compete in the Best Sock Competition!
Sock puppet, Purl, helps tell the lesson about amazing Dads like Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Mordecai, Jairus and Joseph. Yet above them all stands Father God – the perfect, eternal Father. Find the sock to retrieve the Memory Verse, and play games like Sock Hop, Sock Balls and Floppy Socks. Make a card and craft: ‘Dad, You Knock My Socks Off!’

New Bible Lessons!
Time with God: the Woman with the Issue of Blood. Children learn from Jesus’ prayer life. Jesus made time to pray because He knew He needed God’s strength, guidance and power at all times, whether in the morning, late at night, or in between.

Don’t Sit Among the Graves! The Widow of Nain. Death is the enemy, and Jesus came to defeat it! God calls us to walk in His light, not to dwell in fear, darkness, or death. We are children of life, not the grave.

New Christmas Lessons!
Mary and Joseph Say ‘Yes’ to God. When the angel Gabriel visited Mary, she said ‘yes’ to what God wanted her to do. And she didn’t just say ‘yes’ once—her whole life was a ‘yes’ to God. This lesson teaches children that God invites them to say ‘yes’ to Him every day, too.

Candy Cane Christmas: I’m sharing a collection of curated resources for a Candy Cane Christmas lesson that offers something a little different during the Christmas season. Begin with the picture book ‘Legend of the Candy Cane’ by Lori Walburg. Kick things off with a guessing game: guess the number of candy canes in the jar? Then explore free printables that complement the story. Round out the lesson with games of Candy Cane Ball, Candy Cane Relay, and a craft: making adorable Candy Cane Mice.

Jesus Fulfils Every Promise! I have to admit this is my newest all-time favourite lesson! I had such a lot of fun creating the character of Pax who works in the Inventory Discrepancy Department of a Fulfilment Centre. He and his friend, Kit, locate missing packages and send them on their way so people’s Christmas wishes are fulfilled. They teach the children that Jesus’ birth fulfilled every Old Testament prophecy!

Christmas Cracker Craft. The ‘Jesus Fulfils Every Promise’ lesson included a make-your-own-cracker craft. I’ve now made the template available as a standalone download to make it easier for Children’s Church leaders to access and use.

Whew—what a whirlwind of lessons to catch you up on! It’s been a wonderfully productive season, and while the desk drawer and computer files are now decluttered and tidy, the creative well is far from dry. There are still plenty more lessons and stories waiting to be brought to life!
