Free Bible Lessons for Kid’s Ministry!

Do you love a catchy title?  Or a clever headline?  My Dad was the editor of a country newspaper.  He also collaborated with my grandfather in writing and publishing a Christian newspaper.  He later went on to publish a Christian magazine.  Dad is still an incredibly prolific writer.  My brother and sisters and I grew up with a love of words.  Jokes, puns and proverbs were a part of family life.  I think that’s why, when I write a lesson for Cooee Kid’s Ministry, I often find myself giving it a catchy title.  It’s the same as the newspaper ‘hook’ my Dad was always looking for to catch a reader’s attention.

The problem with this little foible of mine is that not every title makes the Bible story obvious to the person searching the Cooee Kid’s Ministry website.  You can find the odd self-explanatory title but in most cases, a catchy title would occur to me as I was writing and it would stick.  I’d hope that the title would pique curiosity because that’s how my mind works.

A Website Makeover for Cooee Kid’s Ministry!

Thankfully, a few months ago a company called ‘Strictlymarketing’ created a new website for Cooee Kid’s Ministry and one of many added benefits was the ability to give every lesson its catchy title and the name of the Bible story as well.  No more creative conflict for me and no more time-wasting or frustration for busy Kid’s Church volunteers searching for a particular Bible story!

10 Tantalising Titles

The Impossible Place

The credit for this title belongs to my brother, who preached a sermon about the parting of the Red Sea.  I asked if I could use his sermon as a lesson and of course, he said yes.  The Children of Israel found themselves in an impossible place, between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea.  But God loves to do the impossible.  Jesus was in an impossible place, buried in a tomb until God raised Him to life!

Plain Oh No

Also taken from a sermon!  It’s the Bible story of Nehemiah Building a Wall.  When enemies conspire to discourage and slander, Nehemiah answers them with a plain, ‘Oh no.’  The devil will try to destroy God’s plans for children’s lives, but like Nehemiah, they need to stay focused and say, ‘That’s a plain oh no from me!’

Lying in Wait

In the story of Cain and Able God warns Cain that sin is lying in wait, ready to attack him.  Sin is like a lion that is a ‘sit and wait’ predator sitting in the shadows or tall grass, waiting and waiting.

Hungry Birds

The story of Elijah, the ravens and the widow from 1 Kings.  Like wide-mouthed baby birds in a nest, children learn to have expectant faith!

The Other Picnic

Children often don’t know that Jesus performed the miracle of feeding a multitude twice. This miracle shows Jesus’ love and compassion for Gentiles, anticipating the disciples’ future missions to the nations of the world.

Sting Goes:

A lesson about persecution using the Bible story of Stephen being stoned.  Death and the grave don’t sting us anymore because Jesus conquered the power of death.  He is the only one who has ever done this!

Wash the Dishes

Do children know Jesus talked about dirty dishes?  This Bible lesson is about the time Jesus confronted the Pharisees and accused them of being like dishes that were clean on the outside but filthy on the inside.  Talk about missing a spot!  We are vessels, containers made to be filled with God so our inside needs to be clean.  Only the blood of Jesus can wash sin away!

Huff Fever

Huff fever is a dreadful condition!  Its symptoms are anger and annoyance.  Martha had a case of Huff Fever when Jesus came to visit and Mary would not help her.  Focusing on Jesus is the remedy.

Carry the Cheese

A new look at a favourite Bible story; David and Goliath.  God positioned David to be in the right place at the right time.  David thought he was simply carrying cheese to his brothers in the army but God was about to take him from the paddock to the palace!

Wattle You Do?

An Aussie-influenced story (and a personal favourite) about wattle tree seeds that need fire to germinate.  Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego walk through the fire and are not burned.  God cares what children go through and will walk through trials with them because they are precious to Him!

Are you hooked?  I hope one of these Bible lessons has caught your attention so you’ll be able to teach God’s truth to the kids in your Kid’s Ministry!
