There Are No Small Parts!

When I was studying Speech and Drama, I learned about the Stanislavski method of acting.  Konstantin Stanislavski, considered the father of modern acting, said, ‘There are no small parts, only small actors.’  In other words, just because you may have a small acting role does not mean you are not important.

Stanislavski was talking about acting—but the principle reaches far beyond the theatre. Real life is full of “small parts” that don’t look glamorous, don’t draw applause, and don’t get their names printed in the program. Yet they matter. They shape moments. They steady people. They make things possible.

Most of the roles we play in everyday life aren’t performances at all. They’re quiet acts of service, kindness, presence, and faithfulness. They’re the unseen contributions that hold families, communities, and ministries together.

The Supporting Cast of Children’s Ministry

Children’s Ministry is built on these real‑life small parts.

Not everyone is the storyteller, the worship leader, or the upfront personality. Many volunteers serve quietly on the sidelines—setting up chairs, comforting a nervous child, preparing craft materials, welcoming families, or simply being a steady, friendly presence.

But make no mistake: your role is important.

A program cannot run effectively without its supporting cast. The “small” roles are often the ones that create safety, warmth, order, and belonging.  They are the reason the upfront moments can shine.

Scripture Shows Us the Same Truth

The apostle Paul explained this beautifully in 1 Corinthians 12, where he describes the Church as a body made up of many parts. Some parts seem more visible or impressive, but every part is essential. Paul writes that the parts which appear weaker are actually indispensable. God designed His people so that no one is overlooked and no contribution is insignificant.

Children’s Ministry reflects that same divine design. Every volunteer—whether upfront or behind the scenes—helps the whole body function in harmony.

Parents may never see what you do behind the scenes. But God sees. And the impact of your faithfulness ripples through every lesson, every activity, and every child who feels loved and noticed.

There are no small parts in Children’s Ministry—only big hearts willing to serve!

Children learn that God has given each of them a ‘unique’ part to play, just like instruments used in an orchestra. When each one uses their gifts faithfully, God creates something beautiful! This lesson includes a funny script, a Memory Verse learned by rhyme, a game of musical chairs and a craft making paper cup shakers!
