10 Quick Tips Towards Managing Children’s Behaviour

Share these quick and easy to do tips with your Kid’s Church leaders and volunteers.

1.  Pray before the children arrive

2.  Don’t start the program until you have everyone’s attention

3.  Always acknowledge and reinforce good manners

4.  Use on-the-spot corrective actions

  • Make eye contact
  • Move closer to the child or group of children who are being disruptive
  • Use storytelling skills to bring their focus back to what you are saying

5.  Train your leaders to do the same thing from the back and sides of the room

6.  If you have an attention seeker – give positive attention to positive behaviour and no attention to negative behaviour

7.  Keep your cool

8.  Use praise selectively – it makes the children, individually or as a whole, feel good about themselves

9.  Don’t brand children – start with a fresh sheet every service

10. As each child leaves, say something positive, or smile and wave goodbye

Put these 10 quick tips into practice every week and you’ll encourage positive behaviour in your children so everyone has a great time!
