7 Reasons to Include Craft in Your Kid’s Program

Should you bother with craft?  Yes!  Adding craft to your program has many positive benefits.

Here’s 7 reasons why…

  1. It’s rewarding.  Children find it satisfying to finish a craft to show off to family.
  2.   It starts conversation between children and families about what the children have learned in Kid’s Church.
  3. It gives the children something to take home to put on the fridge or keep in their room that reminds them of Kid’s Church and the lesson they learned.  (That’s why I like to add a Bible verse to every craft.)
  4. During craft children sit with friends and leaders and open up and talk while their hands are busy.
  5. Craft creates memories that last, long after the craft itself is gone.
  6. It can help visiting children decide to stay for the morning instead of sitting in big church.  (I take them aside and show them what we’ll be making…for some children that’s enough to encourage them to give Kid’s Church a go.)
  7. Craft provides opportunities for leaders to be involved in Kid’s Ministry when they may find teaching a lesson too daunting.

And here’s a tip:  Always make the craft yourself before Kid’s Church.  It’s the best way to work out the steps and explain any tricky bits to your leaders.  And it means you have a finished craft to show the children.

So, why not give craft a go in your Kid’s ministry program?  There’s a lot more going on than you realise!
