Christmas in July!
In Australia, where December means beach days and BBQs, it makes perfect sense that people would want to recreate that ‘classic’ Northern Hemisphere Christmas vibe during the actual cold season. A wintry Christmas in the middle of the year to get that cozy, snow-dusted, chocolate by the fire feeling that so many Christmas cards and movies evoke. It’s like a festive time warp—roast dinners, ugly jumpers, and maybe even a faux snow machine or two!
So you may be inspired to run a Christmas in July school holiday program at your Church, or a Super Sunday event as an outreach. Take a look at the Christmas lessons on the Cooee Kid’s Ministry site.

Here are four favourite Christmas lessons that would particularly lend themselves to a Christmas in July theme.
The first is ‘God’s BIG Plan! What is Christmas About?’ I used this lesson last year, presenting the gospel to five Grade 4 classes in succession. It was an awesome experience!
You’ll find the lesson here: https://cooeekidsministry.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Gods-BIG-Plan2.pdf
For some Christmas movie mayhem, try ‘The Director’s Cut’, which involves the story of Christmas being filmed on a movie set.
You’ll find it here: https://cooeekidsministry.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/The-Directors-Cut.pdf
‘Christmas Bells’ (Ring Out the Good News) is a noisy but engaging Christmas story that focuses on announcing the Good News of Jesus.
You can download it here: https://cooeekidsministry.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Christmas-Bells.pdf
‘Christmas Paper Chain’ is a Christmas story about evangelising, and so it’s appropriate all year round. It follows the life of Emma as, link by link, she is told about Jesus, and it’s at Christmas that she finally understands and receives Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.

Christmas Shopping Tip!
It’s not unusual to see Christmas in July displays in the op-shops. The Vinnies (St Vincent De Paul charity shop) near me makes the most of Christmas in July, selling decorations and craft supplies at reasonable prices.
God bless you as you make the most of every opportunity to share the Gospel with the children in your area. Have a very Merry Christmas in July!
