Does It Ever Go Away? (KidMin4Ever)

Does it ever go away?  You’re out and about and you see a new product or the way something is done and you think to yourself, ‘Oh, I could use that in Kid’s Church.’  My friend and I meet fortnightly for a coffee at a café overlooking a marina.  The café is under new management and has been simply but tastefully refurbished.  I saw the day’s specials were written on a roll of brown paper that was hung on the wall by string, giving the owner the ability to cut off old menu special’s, pull down clean paper, and write the new specials on it.  So simple!  I immediately thought, ‘What a good idea.  You could hang a roll of brown paper in the foyer of Kid’s Church with a note to parents about the day’s activities and the focus of the Bible teaching and the Memory Verse.  Quick, easy and no photocopying.’  I have not taught children for four years.

A friend who is a retired pastor likes to say, ‘Once a Children’s Pastor, always a Children’s Pastor.’  I think she’s right!  The ideas keep coming even though the Church I attend has a congregation of mostly elderly people.  My focus has shifted from actual teaching of Kid’s Church to the supply of free resources for Kid’s Churches.  That’s what Cooee Kid’s Ministry is all about.

Here’s What’s New at Cooee Kid’s Ministry!

God’s Kingdom Kid’s Series:

The Inner Man

A knight inside a suit of armour is used to teach children about the ‘inner man’, the internal and invisible part of a person, their spirit.  The lesson includes how to be ‘strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man’ (Ephesians 3:16) through praise and thanksgiving, worship, Bible reading and prayer.  This scripture is also the Memory Verse which is uncovered using the game of Pass the Parcel!

Saints in the Light

In this lesson children may be surprised to learn they are saints.  The Apostle Paul wrote lots of letters and he began them by addressing Christians, ‘to the saints’.  He called the Christians in Colossae ‘saints in light’.  Obeying God leads to action and action leads to shining for everyone to see.  Hide scrolls around the room for the children to find the words for the Memory Verse.  The verse is from 1 Corinthians 1:2b  ‘…to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours.’

Proclamation

Children learn that a proclamation is an official declaration issued by a person of authority so important information becomes known.  Jesus made an important proclamation in the temple.  The proclamation is unpacked and explained so children learn that Jesus is the fulfillment of the proclamation the prophet Isaiah made.  Children recite the Memory Verse from Isaiah 12:4 using rhythmic verse and actions:  And on that day you will say, ‘Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name; make known among the nations what He has done, and proclaim that His name is exalted.’

Hold Your Horses

Did you know a knight’s warhorse had its own armour?  It gave a knight an advantage in battle because a knight on horseback was bigger, faster and stronger than a soldier on foot, and his horse was trained to trample, kick and bite on command!   Proverbs 21:31 says, ‘The horse is prepared for the say of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord.’  It didn’t look like Gideon had the advantage when he was going to fight the Midianites with only 300 men!  David wrote, ‘Some boast in chariots and some in horses, But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.’ (Psalm 20:7)  God is the One we need to be praising because He is the only One we can trust completely!  The Memory Verse uses plastic horses hidden around the room to teach the verse from Zechariah 4:6 Not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty.

Where is the Sting?

Have you ever been stung by a bee?  The apostle Paul used the sting of a bee to talk about death.  Death does not sting us anymore because Jesus conquered the power of death long ago!  Learn about Stephen, the first martyr, and how to be sure you can live forever in Heaven.

Praise God When?

It’s wonderful to receive praise, so how much more should we praise God for all He has done!  You can praise God even when life is tough because praise is an outward expression of what is inside your heart.  Paul and Silas praised God in prison and their faith released God’s power!

Lying in Wait

A lion is a ‘lying in wait predator’, sitting in the shadow or tall grass, catching prey by stealth.  It’s the same with sin.  In the Bible story of Cain and Abel, God warns Cain that sin is lying in wait for him!  James 4:6-8 says, God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.  Submit yourselves, then to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and He will come near to you.’

Memory Verse:

Stunning footage of butterflies, together with text, is used to teach this favourite Memory Verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Hungry Birds

In Psalm 81:10 God says, “For it was I, the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt.  Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things.”

Father God loves to provide for His children!  Watch the Bible stories about Elijah being fed by ravens and the widow whose oil and flour never run out.  Listen to the words of Jesus, telling people not to worry about what they will eat or drink or wear.

Anchor!

An anchor holds a ship in place, it keeps it steady and stops the ship from going backwards.  Even when you don’t see it down on the ocean floor, the anchor is doing its job.  God is always working.  He keeps every promise He makes.  Abraham believed in the promises of God, even though he was 100 years old when he became a Dad.  You can trust God to keep His promises to you, too!
