How to Celebrate Australia Day in Kid’s Church!
G’day,
Why not incorporate Australia Day in your Kid’s Church curriculum? It’s bonza!
Kid’s love celebrating Australia Day in Kid’s Church. I’ve found children are in the mood to have fun before the seriousness of a new school year begins. I hold the Australia Day celebration the Sunday closest to the actual public holiday and like to have a Sausage Sizzle for the whole church after the service, combining Kid’s Church with Big Church. (I think some parents are in the mood to celebrate their kids return to school!)
Gotta Have Games!
- Thong fling – who can fling a thong the furthest? (Try saying that three times!)
- Gumboot throw – who can throw a gumboot the furthest?
- Aussie obstacle course or relay race – kangaroo hop in a sleeping bag, carry water in a billy can…you get the idea
- Pin the Tail on the Kangaroo – Aussie take on an old party favourite
- Ping Pong Ball Fly Swat – use a fly swat to swat ping pong balls into a tub. You can buy Australia shaped fly swats at cheap shops.
- Traditional games like an egg and spoon race, a sack race, three legged race and tug-o-war
- Then there’s a game of cricket to consider
We’ll Wilt Without Water!
Make the most of the summer with fun water activities.
- Water pistols or super soaker challenges
- Water balloon fights
- Slip n Slide
Tucker!
Fine Australian fare like lamingtons, Tim Tams, Caramello Koala’s, Allen’s snakes, meat pies and tomato sauce.
Get Crafty!
- Dot painting
- Make a cardboard boomerang and decorate
- Make a cardboard sun visor and decorate
- Aussie native animals from paper plates
Always Time for a Chin Wag!
