Last Minute Christmas Gifts!

It’s summer in Australia and children have finished school for the year.  However, you may still be running a Kid’s Ministry program at your Church.  Don’t sweat it!  Here are 3 new Christmas lessons you can teach and most of the work has been done for you.

Gift #1 Joy to the World!

This lesson tells the children about the arrival of Mary’s bundle of joy:  Jesus!  The angels brought news of great joy.  The Wise Men rejoiced exceedingly with great joy when they saw the star.  The lesson goes on to explain the difference between happiness and the Holy Spirit’s joy which lasts forever, satisfies, gives strength, and is always there!

The Memory Verse game asks the children to jump for joy to find every word.  There are Jump for Joy games and challenges and for craft time, children can make musical instruments using joy bells.

Gift #2 God’s BIG Plan!

This may be a BIG lesson, but everything is set out for you.  It’s a BIG lesson because it explains the reason for Jesus’ birth.  It looks at the BIGness of God:  His omniscience, omnipotence and that He is omnipresent.  At Christmas time, God’s BIG plan unfolds, and because God is so big and powerful, any plan He makes will succeed!

There’s a warm-up activity where children get to use their architectural skills to build something from the Nativity story.  Use a plan for children to follow so they can find the words of the Memory Verse from Jeremiah 29:11 ‘I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’  Play a game of Look Up, Look Down, and make a Nativity Scene during craft time.

Gift #3 Hark!  The Herald Angels Sing!

This lesson begins with a sing-a-long of the favourite Christmas Carol, ‘Hark!  The Herald Angels Sing!’  But what does ‘hark’ mean?  What is a herald angel and what is a heavenly host?  This lesson explains it all!  Who angels are and the important work they do for God.

Children may not be angels but they can be heralds and announce the Good News that Jesus, the Saviour of the world has arrived.  Angels love a good celebration and that’s what they do when anyone gives their life to Jesus.

The Memory Verse is discovered in a game of ‘Hark!  What’s That Hymn?’ which is a Christmas carol version of ‘Name that Tune’.  Play a game of ‘Pass It On’ with red and green balloons and make a ‘Herald’s Paper Horn’ as a craft to take home.

There you have it!  Three last-minute Christmas gifts from me to you.  Have a blessed Christmas serving our wonderful Saviour, Jesus Christ, and the little ones He adores so much.
